Description
Any growth process, if it is true growth, will not only require change, but cause it, especially for the Christian. The nature of spiritual maturation means that believers are in constant flux. Christians become someone different than they were before.
The idea of change excites some and causes others to tremble in fear of the unknown. Most are in between these two extremes and try daily to stabilize the fragile balance of what they are versus what they are to become.
I have always been one who, outwardly, always looked for change. The change was supposed to solve deeper, inner personal problems which I attributed to outward concerns. Even as a Christian, I bought into the false philosophy that once conversion happened, then past, present, and future problems were solved immediately. While this may be true eschatologically speaking, I failed to realize the power of sin and reality in this life. We live in an imperfect world -- a world riddled with sin and evil. Even our human nature longs to be recreated into God's original image, which He intended for us all along.
My journey toward healing and wholeness has been unexpected, exciting, and fearful. Many of my preconceived ideas and theological stances have been refined and redefined. That type of change is difficult for someone who was as self-assured as I was.
As far as I can determine, I have grown more in the last three years than I have at any other time in my life. Where I go from here is a matter of faith.
